My year 7 students have used the incredibly bright and vibrant work of Australian artist **Howard Arkley** as inspiration for some Artrage pieces. Class discussions and the careful analysis of Howard Arkley's work provided students with a clear understanding of key characteristics of his work including the use of stencils and the airbrush which was influence by his interest in graffiti art. This knowledge, coupled with some of the tools in the Artrage program provided students with the opportunity to produce highly individual, effective pieces which show the clear influence of Arkley's work.
Students used a homework drawing as inspiration for their work. The homework task required students to produce an observational drawing of a section of their bedroom.
Students selected an area of their drawing to crop for this task.
Some of the considerations students had to make when producing their work which came from the students observations of Howard Arkley's work included:
Contrasting patterned areas with flat areas of colour.
The use of the outline to define shapes.
Exploring the use of a range of colours to define shapes rather than relying just on black.
